Corm is a staple in the Cuban diet and so no Cuban party would be complete without an attempt at making Cuban Corn Fritters! Actually, Cuban Corn Fritters are not that difficult to make. You do need to get 1 cup of fresh corn kernels, which you then ground to a pulp. You add this to a well-beaten egg. Add ½ a tablespoon of aniseed, which you’ll need to have ground up using your mortar and pestle. Finally add 5 tablespoons of sugar and ½ a tablespoon of salt. Once you’ve mixed all these up nicely, add a pinch of all-purpose flour and mix well. Then you need to put the mixture one spoonful at a time into a hot frying pan (careful not to burn yourself as the frying pan needs to be 35 degrees Fahrenheit).
