Due to the nature of the place, a lot of Varadero's more popular attractions and activities center on, under, around, or involve, water. To make your stay more pleasant, here are some things, including some that don't involve water, that you should be looking out for:
· Caves - Aside from beaches, diving and parks, Varadero is famous for its caves. Some of the caves that can be explored here include the National Monument Santa Cartalina Cave, the Calero Funeral Cave and the Bellamar Caves.
· Golf - the Varadero Golf Club is, currently, the only professional 18-hole (par 72) golf course in Cuba. So if golf is your thing, here's where you have to come!
· Josone Park - this splendid park is located in the center of Varadero. Originally intended, upon the completion of its construction in 1942, as a country retreat, the park covers 9 hectares and has a fine stone mansion and artificial lake.
· Muse Municipal - the History Museum - a place to learn all about the people of Varadero. As with other parts of the city, the building that houses the museum is, itself, an attraction.
· Santa Elvira Church - Wood/stone structure church constructed in 1938. The architecture and materials used to construct the church are fairly unique and make it worth a visit.Scuba-diving - as over 32 well established dive sites testify, Varadero's clear blue crystal waters make this the ideal place in Cuba to do some scuba-diving. Chief among the sites is The Cayo Pierdras del Norte Sea Park, located 8 nautical miles northeast. The park is over 2 nautical miles in size and has some fabulous dive-sites of sunken boats - both past and present. Another popular dive spot is the Saturo Cave, an underwater haven of diving pleasure.
