Although there are eight hotels on the island, all of the holiday resorts are run by three management companies:
· Sol Melia Hotel(s) - this chain manages two hotels on the island, the Sol Cayo Largo and the Sol Pelicano. Both are considered 4-star hotels, but the Pelicano used to be a 3-star until its recent renovations
· Gran Caribe Resort - is actually five hotels - Villa Lindmar, Villa Soledad, Villa Coral, Villa Iguana and Villa Capricho - grouped together under the umbrella of one management company. All of the hotels are considered either 2 or 3-star
· Barcelo Cayo Largo Beach Resort - this is Cayo Largo's latest 4-start hotel and only opened in December 2003.
WHERE TO EAT AND PARTY
Both of the hotel chains (Gran Caribe and Sol Melia) and the Barcelo Cayo Largo Beach Resort now offer "all inclusive packages". Consequently most visitors to the island tend to eat and entertain themselves at the resort that they are staying in. Restaurants and bars located on the resorts include:
· Hotel Sol Club - Las Trinas (gourmet), Lindarena (Mixed-grill)
· Hotel Sol Pelicano - La Yana (gourmet), Los Quelonios (Creole/Cuban)
· Marina Cayo Largo - El Criollo (Seafood/Creole), Taberna del Pirata (bar)
