A fairly quiet town, Baracoa still has its fair share of attractions and activities. Notable among its attractions are the fortifications around the town. Also of interest are the parish church, which contains the Parra Cross - the only one of the 29 that Columbus erected along the shores of Cuba during his voyages that still remains. Beside these, located fairly close to the town are four of Cuba's main rivers, the Duabam the Miel, the Yumuri and the Toa. The Toa river is Cuba’s largest river. Also, due to the wealth of vegetation in this area, bird watching is a very popular past time with a number of different species being seen - including parrots and woodpeckers. Other interesting things to do around Baracoa include visiting the Cueva Oscura and Fuerte de la Punta monuments.
