INGREDIENTS (should serve 6)
* 6 egg yolks
* 4 tablespoons of corn starch
* 4 cups of milk
* 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
* 1 cup of sugar
* ½ teaspoon of salt
PREPARATION
Custard is always a favorite as it is fairly easy to make and always goes down really well with your dinning guests. To make Cuban style custard, you’ll need to mix 6 egg yolks, 4 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 cup of milk into a mixing bowl. Once you have given these a good stir, strain the contents of the bowl. In another bowl, mix together 3 cups of milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar and ½ a teaspoon of salt. Give these a good mix and then cook to medium heat. Once you have the mix hot, add your egg mix to the contents and lower the heat to a low temperature while continuing to give the mixture a good, fast, stir. Once the mixture starts to become thick, take it off the heat and add the vanilla extract. Having removed the Cuban style custard from the cooker, put it to one-side to allow it the chance to cool off before refrigerating.
